Meld je aan voor de workshops en expo, een samenwerking met Haarlem Vinyl Festival en Nieuwe Vide!
Vinyl is weer enorm populair vandaag de dag. Ook onder jongeren. Stap op een willekeurig moment een platenzaak binnen of bezoek eens een platenbeurs en je ziet er zeker tieners en twintigers door de bakken gaan. En in sommige gevallen hebben deze kersverse plantenverzamelaars geeneens een eigen platenspeler, maar willen ze gewoon die mooie plaat van hun favoriete artiest.
Want dat is misschien wel de aantrekkingskracht van het vinyl in tijden van onbeperkt streamen. Het fysieke. In tegenstelling tot een klein plaatje, ter grote van je duimnagel,
heb je een grote hoes met een mooie cover. Elke hoes is weer een kunstwerk op zichzelf.
Hoe zouden jongeren, die opgegroeid zijn met de telefoon in de hand en AirPods in de oren, zelf zo’n platenhoes vormgeven? Hoe zou dat er volgens hun uit moeten zien?
Onder begeleiding van een beeldend kunstenaar kan jij in 3 sessies aan de slag met je eigen platenhoes! Je leert over vinyl en de hoezen die daar bij horen. Die sessies zien er in het kort zo uit:
- Een bezoek bij de nieuwe platenwinkel Near Mint en een tour in Record Industry, de grootste vinyl fabriek van Europa (gevestigd in Haarlem!)
- In 2 sessies ga je aan de slag met een eigen ontwerp. Onder begeleiding van de beeldend kunstenaars Eva Kreuger (Nieuwe Vide Studios) en Ben Plummer werk je een idee uit en ga je dit uitvoeren.
- Er is ruimte om tussendoor aan je ontwerp verder te werken in je eigen tijd. Tot slot worden de ontwerpen gedrukt op echte platenhoezen.
- Tijdens het Haarlem Vinyl Festival, 27-29 september, worden de platenhoezen vertoond op een expositie in Flinty’s.
De workshops vinden allemaal plaats in september en de expositie is tijdens het Haarlem Vinyl Festival 27-29 september. Deelname is gratis! Deelname alleen mogelijk voor de leeftijden 13-27.

Vinyl is extremely popular again today. Even among young people. Walk into a record store at any given time or visit a record fair, and you’ll definitely see teenagers and people in their twenties flipping through the crates. In some cases, these new record collectors don’t even own a record player, but they just want that beautiful album from their favorite artist.
Perhaps that’s the appeal of vinyl in the age of unlimited streaming—the physical aspect. Unlike a small image the size of your thumbnail, you have a large cover with beautiful artwork. Each cover is a work of art in itself.
How would young people, who grew up with a phone in hand and AirPods in their ears, design such an album cover themselves? What do they think it should look like?
Under the guidance of a visual artist, you can work on your own album cover in 3 sessions! You’ll learn about vinyl and the covers that go with it. The sessions are briefly structured as follows:
- A visit to the new record store Near Mint and a tour of Record Industry, the largest vinyl factory in Europe (located in Haarlem!).
- In 2 sessions, you’ll work on your own design. With guidance from visual artists Eva Kreuger (Nieuwe Vide Studios) and Ben Plummer, you’ll develop an idea and bring it to life.
- There’s room to continue working on your design in your own time in between sessions. Finally, the designs will be printed on real album covers.
- During the Haarlem Vinyl Festival, September 27-29, the album covers will be exhibited at Flinty’s.
The workshops all take place in September, and the exhibition is during the Haarlem Vinyl Festival from September 27-29. Participation is free! Participation is only possible for ages 13-27.
